About Tolis Dimopoulos

Founder and Managing Attorney

Tolis founded Sophos Law in 2007 to change the way that clients work with attorneys and to create a law firm that truly puts the client experience first. Tolis provides strategic legal and business counseling and advice to technology and cleantech entrepreneurs, startups and emerging growth companies. Tolis serves as outside general counsel for many of his clients and spends his time assisting his clients with entity selection and formation; founder, employee, and investor equity; securities compliance and financings; and strategic partnerships, such as joint ventures and business development arrangements. Tolis also counsels his clients on the creation and protection of intellectual property, such as trade secrets, trademarks, and copyrights.

Prior to founding Sophos Law, Tolis served as the General Counsel for a Registered Rep Magazine Top 100 investment advisory firm where he advised the board of directors and upper management on all legal matters and strategic decisions affecting day-to-day business operations, including complex commercial transactions, corporate governance, securities regulation, privacy, and employment issues. In addition, Tolis maintained the firm’s intellectual property portfolio and prosecuted trademark and copyright claims.

Tolis is also very familiar with litigation.  He began his legal career in 1999 as a trial attorney with the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG Corps). During his tenure with the JAG Corps, Tolis was the lead attorney on over 150 cases, including 12 jury trials, resulting in numerous commendations for exceptional service and achievement.

In addition to a law degree from the University of Richmond, Tolis has a BS in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University and a MBA with a concentration in finance from George Washington University.
